Now that Chris Christie has announced that he is running for president, the sleuths are seeing what they can dig up on him.

It won’t help his case that he has made it his mission to take out Trump.

To that point, reporters are surfacing that Christie spent roughly $300,000 on food and beverage while he was in office.

Big Deal or Nothing Burger?

One of the bigger expenses for Christie was about $82,000 that was spent at MetLife Stadium.

This is the home of the New York Jets and New York Giants, and we know Christie is a big football fan.

The money was later reimbursed, and Christie stopped using the taxpayer-funded account after his second year.

A Christie spokesperson explained, “Whenever the Governor hosts an event in his official capacity, the discretionary account is available to pay for those costs associated with official reception and hosting and related incidental expenses.

“The official nature and business purpose of the event remains the case regardless of whether the event is at the State House, Drumthwacket, or at a sporting venue.

“Nonetheless in early 2012, the Governor made the decision that costs associated with hosting at the sporting venues were better paid with non-state funds, and those expenses incurred during 2010 and 2011 were reimbursed by the NJGO.

“This week, to ensure this remains the case in full, the NJGOP reimbursed the Treasury for an additional $3,367.22 to deal with an accounting anomaly.”

I know people want this to be something, but I am here to tell you this is about as big a nothing burger as there is.

Members of Congress put that number to shame every year, hosting huge events at our expense.

Going after Christie, quite frankly, is a waste of time.

He is a one-percent candidate who will more than likely be out of the race in a few months, so let’s not waste time going after him for running up a tab, a tab that was later reimbursed.

Instead, let’s worry about beating Joe Biden, getting a bigger advantage in the House, and turning that blue Senate back to red.
