Daycare Destroyed Nineteen Kids Injured – Two Critical

The Great Adventures Christian Preschool wasn’t trying to live up to its name on Thursday but did. The 19 daycare students and two adult teachers had quite a sudden adventure, though it wasn’t all that great. While everyone was focused on their studies, a Suzuki SUV came plowing through a brick wall. It was in the middle of the classroom by the time it came to a rest.

Mass daycare causality

As the children were quickly evacuated from the daycare to a variety of nearby hospitals, initial reports were released advising that “two children were in the pediatric intensive care unit at the University of California, Davis Medical Center in Sacramento.” An update declared them out of danger.

The children all had a varying level of injures, and most were hospitalized as a precaution, but “none of the injuries are believed to be life-threatening.” Everyone was really concerned for one child who “was trapped under the vehicle after the crash” but they’re expected to be okay.

The bizarre incident happened in Anderson, California. The town is located in the northern part of the state, about 10 miles south of Redding.

The 911 call came in just before 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 3, right in the middle of a school day. Because of the number of injured toddlers, the daycare was officially designated a mass causality incident almost instantly.

One of the daycare staff was also treated for injuries. Officials note that police, fire department and medical personnel were on scene within two minutes.

At the time of the collision the building was occupied by 19 children and two adults,” Anderson Police Department confirms. “Officers entered the building and began assessing the injuries of the children and escorting them to safety.

Driver cooperating

Police aren’t real sure at this point exactly how or why the incident happened. They did verify that the driver did not appear to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Anderson PD had a good long chat with “the female driver of the SUV.

They let her go home, convinced she “was not impaired at the time of the interview.” The parents of the children attending the daycare want to know if she wasn’t impaired then why the heck couldn’t she keep her Suzuki between the lines.

The driver was cooperative and released after providing a statement.” Talking to the police was the easy part for that driver.

Explaining to a spouse or partner how her day went would be the really tricky part. “How was it? Well, I ran down 19 kids in a daycare.” The legal and insurance nightmare hasn’t even started yet.

Just for the record, authorities note that “fourteen of the children were sent to the hospital through ambulances,” while the other five daycare students “were taken by their parents to the hospital.

The batch of mass casualties was mostly shuffled around between hospitals in the Redding and Red Bluff vicinity.
