Senator Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) just did Joe Biden a considerable favor.
Just as the August inflation report hit and the stock market was crashing, Graham dropped a new piece of abortion legislation.
His bill, if passed, would create a federal ban on abortions after 15 weeks.
It was exactly what the White House needed to deflect away from the horrific economic news that had just been reported.
Why Now?
I do not defend Graham very often, and I cannot defend him here because of the timing.
However, the legislation is in step with what most Americans want.
The White House, of course, was crying foul.
White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre stated, “The president and vice president are fighting for progress, while Republicans are fighting to take us back.”
In actuality, the overwhelming majority of Americans believe abortion should be legal.
Of those that believe it should be legal, more than 70 percent want restrictions in place with exceptions for rape, incest, and when the mother’s life is in danger.
This law would put the United States on par with most countries.
Sadly, I have yet to see a reporter throw that data back at the White House because the defense they are using right now is just a blatant lie, saying that this legislation is “out of step” with what most Americans want… it is actually EXACTLY what most Americans want.
Why would Graham present this bill now when Biden was getting destroyed by everyone on the economy and inflation?
He gave Joe Biden and Democrats a distraction, a badly needed one at that.
Just an inexcusable mistake.
