Many in the media have become familiar with Citizens for Responsibility & Ethics (CREW), who throughout the Trump administration would file a letter or report claiming a Hatch Act violation if a member of the Trump team blew their nose in a partisan fashion. So how badly must the Biden-Harris regime have messed up to catch flak from them? Pretty damned badly. They’ve set their sights on Jen Psaki and she could be in trouble now.
Who Are C.R.E.W.?
The Citizens for Responsibility & Ethics are, on their face, a far-left, anti-Trump advocacy organization shrouded under the guise of “Ethics”, having dinged Fmr. Counselor to the President Kellyanne Conway for so-called ‘violations’ of the Hatch Act no less than fifty times just on Twitter alone! With the hyper-partisan politicization of … well… everything, the Hatch Act is a difficult standard to maintain on a good day, much less when lobbyists and the media have colluded to weaponize it. So with reports like “Accountability after the presidency for Donald Trump and his enablers” which claim “While Donald Trump’s disastrous presidency is now over, accountability for his abuses and corruption is in some ways just beginning…” We’ve established this group to be wildly left-leaning with a bad case of Trump derangement syndrome.
What Did Jen Psaki Do?
According to The Daily Wire, on October 14th the press asked the original ‘circle-back girl’ Jen Psaki about the high-stakes gubernatorial election in Virginia between Democrat Fmr. Gov. Terry McAuliffe and Republican Glenn Youngkin who has taken the lead in polls against McAuliffe. It’s a newsworthy race because what for Democrats should’ve been an easy win is now transforming into a razor-thin, margin-0f-error race.
Psaki told them,
“Well, I have to be a little careful about how much political analysis I do from here and not (inaudible) into that too much.
Look, I think the President, of course, wants former Governor McAuliffe to be the future governor of Virginia. There is alignment on a lot of their agenda, whether it is the need to invest in rebuilding our roads, rails, and bridges, or making it easier for women to rejoin the workforce.
I will say as — I will leave it to other outside analysis to convey that off-year elections are often — are often not a bellwether, but — and there’s a lot of history here in Virginia.
But, again, we’re going to do everything we can to help former Governor McAuliffe, and we believe in the agenda he’s representing.”
The Hatch Act requires, “an employee may not—(1) use his official authority or influence for the purpose of interfering with or affecting the result of an election; (2)knowingly solicit, accept, or receive a political contribution from any person.”
In their letter of complaint to the White House Office of Special Counsel CREW laid out their case against Psaki which is fairly blatant as they explain, that this isn’t the first violation either.
“Ms. Psaki Appears to Have Violated the Hatch Act in Her Press Briefings
Ms. Psaki appears to have violated the Hatch Act in her October 14 press briefing by impermissibly mixing official government business with advocacy for former Governor McAuliffe’s election. There is no question Ms. Psaki was speaking in her official capacity and was on duty. Her remarks were made during an official press briefing from behind the podium in the White House Briefing Room, and she discussed numerous official issues during the briefing. There is also little doubt that Ms. Psaki’s statements were aimed at the success or failure of a candidate in a partisan election. The Virginia gubernatorial election is scheduled for November 2, 2021, less than three weeks after Ms. Psaki’s comments. In the briefing, Ms. Psaki unequivocally stated that President Biden wants Governor McAuliffe to be the next governor of Virginia, and said “we’re doing everything we can to help” him. While Ms. Psaki referred to former Governor McAuliffe “agenda,” he is not currently in office, leaving little question that she was speaking about his upcoming election. As a result, while Ms. Psaki did not explicitly urge voting for Governor McAuliffe, her statements appear to have been aimed at his success in a partisan political election.
We further note in February 2021, Ms. Psaki tweeted that “@POTUS clearly opposes any effort to recall @GavinNewsom,” referring to California Governor Gavin Newsom. “
The case is pretty irrefutable, and it’s very, very telling that the Biden-Harris regime has been playing so fast and loose with the Hatch Act that even an avowedly anti-Trump, far-left watchdog has to call them out for it. And you don’t have to imagine how they would respond to a Republican administration for similar issues, all you have to do is look back to how they handled President Trump’s team.
