While the House of Representatives continues to discuss appropriation bills to fund the government before the end of the month, Republican House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) has hinted that he would support a measure to defund Special Counsel Jack Smith’s ongoing political persecution of Donald Trump. And luckily, Jordan isn’t alone in his thoughts, as other GOP representatives have agreed with this mentality.
Rep Matt Gaetz even went so far as introducing a bill which would cut off federal funds being used for Special Counsel Smith’s office and investigations.
The legislation was prompted after Robert Hur, appointed to investigate President Joe Biden’s alleged mishandling of classified materials, hasn’t been heard from since January.
Gaetz stated that this was an attack on President Trump by Biden when he funded it and aimed to let American voters know where their individual representatives stand on the issue and how they are using “the power of the purse”.
In today’s political climate there does not appear to be much bipartisanship between Democrats and Republicans alike. This has been especially true with regards to investigating both sides when it comes to allegations of misconduct or wrongdoing.
It seems that Democrats are all too eager to launch full-scale investigations against Republicans while failing to do the same for themselves or members within their own party when similar issues arise.
This type of one-sidedness needs to stop if we want our politicians working together instead of against each other every time something controversial arises in Washington D.C.
Furthermore, many Americans feel like these investigations have become nothing more than witch hunts against those who don’t agree with certain ideologies or agendas – most notably former President Donald J Trump.
It’s unfair for taxpayers money to be used in order for one side gain leverage over another due solely based on political affiliations rather then facts and circumstantial evidence gathered through an impartial investigation process free from bias or prejudice.
