Now that we are past the government shutdown deadline, Matt Gaetz has expressed confidence in moving forward with his plan to oust Kevin McCarthy. According to U.S. Representative Matt Gaetz (R-FL), House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) has failed to live up to the agreements that were originally made when he was elected speaker earlier this year.
Gaetz and other members of the House Freedom Caucus have expressed their discontent with McCarthy’s decision to pass a continuing resolution which would fund the government for just a few more weeks without single issue spending bills as opposed to omnibus resolutions – something that Gaetz had been pushing for during negotiations in the budget talks over recent weeks.

Representative Gaetz appeared on CNN’s Jake Tapper Show recently to discuss his plans moving forward in regards to ousting McCarthy from his position as Speaker of the House.
When asked whether or not he planned on moving ahead with an effort to remove McCarthy from office, he replied affirmatively, saying “let’s rip off the band-aid…we need…new leadership that can be trustworthy”. He went on further to explain how there was an agreement between Republicans when McCarthy was first elected speaker but since then it had been violated “in brazen, repeated material breaches”.
This was compounded by what Gaetz called a “secret deal” made overnight between Democrats and McCarthy regarding Ukraine funds while at the same time encouraging Republicans to vote for a continuing resolution without any such funds included.
When asked about his challenger’s plans concerning him, Speaker Kevin McCarthy remained un-phased stating “so be it…let’s get over with it and let’s start governing”.
It appears that despite political tensions running high among both parties at present – with many conservatives feeling like they’ve been shortchanged by their own party.
There is still room for compromise going forward if everyone can approach negotiations with open minds and hearts instead of closed fists intent only on achieving personal goals rather than working together towards common objectives.
