ICYMI – House Speaker Kevin McCarthy may be walking around with a target on his head right now.
Recent reports have surfaced that there are some grumblings in the party.
House Republicans are unhappy with some whispers from McCarthy about Scalise.
If the reports are accurate, he could find himself facing a vote very soon to continue to hold the gavel.
Time to Go
The big debate is about a budget not being ready to go so McCarthy can sit down with Biden and have a chat about the debt ceiling.
McCarthy has apparently been throwing shade at House Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-LA) and Budget Chairman Jodey Arrington (R-TX) for not having the budget ready to go.
Scalise, in particular, is very well liked, the comments are upsetting some members.
Rep. Ralph Norman (R-S.C.) stated, “The agreements made by Speaker McCarthy, among other things, is to begin the ten-year balanced budget NOW and with his initiatives & directives.
“It’s HIS responsibility to get the 218 votes to ensure our nation’s financial security JUST AS HE DID IN SECURING THE 218 votes for speaker.”
An anonymous House Republican added, “The members I’ve spoken with are just stunned by his rebuking of his budget chair, and certainly of our leadership.
“I can’t imagine [he will last an entire term].”
For his part, Scalise is staying quiet on the matter.
He stated, “Our nation is staring down the barrel of a debt crisis, and my budget committee colleagues and I are focused on one thing: passing a budget that will stop this reckless spending and restore fiscal sanity in Washington before it’s too late.”
