Dogs are once again proven to be man’s best friend in the latest news out of Westboro, Massachusetts. In the middle of the night, before the smoke detectors went off in the home, a family’s dog alerted them to a fire and likely saved their lives.
According to reporting by 7 News, fire officials say that the dog’s actions “likely contributed to their safe evacuation from the burning house.”
The Westborough Fire Department shared a photo of the heroic dog in a post on its Facebook page:
Four adults and one child were in the house when the fire broke out in the back bedroom. The Red Cross is now assisting the family.
There was significant damage to the home, but no injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
The Westborough Fire Department shared the news of the fire on Facebook, writing: “Firefighters responded to a building fire on Glen Street overnight. Damage was significant however there were no injuries. Prior to smoke detectors sounding the family was alerted to the fire by a family dog which likely contributed to safe evacuation. Thanks to our mutual aid partners for the assistance.”
The old saying is right, dogs really are man’s best friend. If this dog hadn’t alerted his family to the fire, they may not have made it out safely.
