Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) accepted Donald Trump’s nomination to be Secretary of State, and I suspect he will breeze through confirmation.
That means that Governor DeSantis gets to pick Rubio’s replacement.
While DeSantis has not hinted who will fill these vacated seats, we do know who is interested… Lara Trump.
Getting Into Politics
Lara Trump has hinted at running for office before, but now she sees a golden opportunity.
With Rubio moving over to Secretary of State, his seat will be vacated and DeSantis will have to appoint a replacement.
Lara Trump is hoping that will be her.
She stated, “I know my name has been thrown out there a lot, and I would say that my experience at the RNC has really shown me, you know, serving the American people, and if I were tapped for this serving my home state now of Florida.
“It’s a great honor and a great responsibility, obviously, but I would love to be able to go forward and do more.
“If this is something I’m asked to do, I would seriously consider it, but I have yet to hear from Governor DeSantis, so we’ll see what happens.”
But here is the thing…
Donald Trump’s team dumped all over DeSantis during this election, and still has a sour taste in the mouth of DeSantis.
If Lara Trump gets this seat, she would surely be in consideration for running for president in 2028, and that is something DeSantis clearly plans on doing.
On the flip side, if DeSantis has no plans on running again, he could appoint Lara Trump and extend the olive branch to Trump for these two to make up.
This is a really interesting situation that I will continue to monitor because the butterfly effect of this seat will be pretty significant.
