Tragedy struck Decatur, Illinois on Sunday, September 10 when a massive explosion occurred at a food processing plant.
The incident resulted in eight people being injured and five hospitalized as of Monday afternoon, September 11.
In response to the disaster, Governor Pritzker offered state assistance to help those affected.
The Archer-Daniels-Midland processing complex was the site of the explosion which happened just after 7pm Central time.
ADM immediately contacted the local Decatur Fire Department following the occurrence and are currently working with them to investigate further and determine a cause for what happened.
According to Reuters, a soybean oil crushing plant was shut down along with an adjacent corn processing plant in order to ensure safety protocols are followed before resuming operations again.
Furthermore, ADM has expressed their thoughts and concerns towards those who were injured during this time and have said that they are doing everything they can do provide support for victims’ families.
The governor has offered state support services to aid those affected by this tragedy including victims of the explosion as well as families whose businesses have been impacted due to shutdowns from the blast.
