Massive Toxic Meth Contamination Job Will Take WEEKS

Boulder Public library is sad to announce that their homeless population will need to hang out and smoke their meth elsewhere for a while longer. They thought they could open back up with the new year but that’s been delayed.

Public library still contaminated

Officials expecting to reopen the Boulder Public Library had their hopes dashed by the report which came back from the test lab.

They had to shut down before Christmas when two staff members were sent to the ER for “exposure to methamphetamine that was reportedly being smoked in the building’s restrooms.

Instead of returning to business as usual on Tuesday, the library will “gradually” reopen. They hope to have service fully restored by January 9 but aren’t carving that date in stone. A professional remediation contractor went through the whole building with test kits.

They got the report. It gave them a good excuse to get nice and drunk New Year’s eve. “That report, along with input from state and county officials, prompted the city to adjust to slow the re-opening process.

Apparently, the library was more contaminated than they originally feared. On Wednesday, citizens who actually read the books will be “allowed to pick up materials that have been placed on hold.

Homeless folks won’t be allowed in to stay warm. “No members of the public will be allowed beyond the main entrance.

Job will take ‘weeks’

Library staff hope to have the building open to the public soon but “full remediation of the affected areas of the building is expected to take weeks, and no timeline has been set for its completion.

The problem was a lot worse than anyone had imagined. They weren’t even aware they had a problem until staff started wigging out from second hand meth smoke coming through the ventilation.

Library Director David Farnan is quick to assure their few remaining literate patrons that the books are safe to read. “I’m confident there is no ongoing health risk. We are eager to welcome community members back to the library as soon as possible.

After the staffers were diagnosed with meth poisoning, “initial testing of public restroom vents” showed levels “well above state thresholds for methamphetamine contamination.” It spread all through the building.

Methamphetamine use has dramatically increased as a challenge over the past few years in communities across the nation, including Boulder County,” Lexi Nolen defends. She’s Acting Director of Boulder County Public Health. Her agency is “committed to continued partnership with the City of Boulder and others to identify and implement solutions that both protect the community and provide support to those needing help.” That means closing the library bathrooms.

No public restrooms will be available until the work is completed, new samples have been taken confirming safe access, and the city has received clearance from health officials to re-open these facilities for full use.
