In the post-assassination attempt fallout, a lot of fingers are being pointed.
With the Secret Service falling under the Department of Homeland Security, Secretary Mayorkas and Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle are being blamed for various reasons.
One of them was an alleged request for extra security that was denied, a claim that Mayorkas is now denying.
A Little Help, Please
Rep. Michael Waltz (R-FL) is the one who initially reported the alleged request.
He posted on X, “I have very reliable sources telling me there have been repeated requests for stronger secret service protection for President Trump. Denied by Secretary Mayorkas.”
Secretary Mayorkas immediately denied that was the case, responding, “That is an unequivocally false assertion.
“We keep a very close watch on a very dynamic threat environment.
“The president, the former president, are commonly consistently under threat.
“We take every single threat seriously.
“We make security adjustments as are warranted.
“We had enhanced security for the former president beginning at least in June.
“We have not received any requests for additional security measures that were rebuffed.
“That assertion is unequivocally false.”
I just watched an interview with the Director of the Secret Service, and she was asked if the agency had increased Trump’s security on every front, and she pussyfooted around her answer, with the reporter even calling her out.
Something is not right here and we all know it.
Either this was one of the worst security breakdowns in the Secret Service’s history, or someone allowed it to happen.
Either way, Mayorkas and Cheatle need to be held accountable.
