Arkansas Governor Sarah Sanders was tasked with hitting the rebuttal for the GOP.
That, however, did not stop House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) from getting his two cents in for the State of the Union.
McCarthy released a statement on Monday night, offering a key piece of advice for Joe Biden.
Time to Work
The debt ceiling will have to be resolved before the June deadline.
However, Biden and Democrats seem to content to let the clock tick on this one.
The thinking is idiotic… wait until the last second, hoping to put pressure on the GOP to cave so no concessions have to be made.
McCarthy has to stand tall on this or he will be removed, so he offered up a great piece of advice to Biden on this.
He told him, “Mr. President, it’s time to get to work.”
He added, “Mr. President, congressional Republicans are ready to act – to save our country and to make America stronger.
“I hope you will join us.”
McCarthy continued, “Defaulting on our debt is not an option.
“But neither is a future of higher taxes, higher interest rates, and an economy that doesn’t work for working Americans.
“A responsible debt limit increase that begins to eliminate wasteful Washington spending and puts us on a path towards a balanced budget is not only the right place to start… It’s the only place to start.”
Biden has made his stance, and McCarthy has made his, so let’s see who blinks.
