Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi just got caught in her web of lies once again, and this time she’s struggling to talk her way out of it. Pelosi recently made headlines after denying claims that she had set the precedent for impeachment in the U.S. House of Representatives.
In a recent interview on MSNBC, California Democrat Pelosi responded to House Speaker Kevin McCarthy’s claim that he started an impeachment investigation into President Joe Biden without a full House vote because Pelosi had already established the precedent for such a move when investigating former President Donald Trump in 2019.
Pelosi did not put the matter up for a vote and instead unilaterally declared an impeachment inquiry into Trump with no legal authority from Congress.
When asked about it by MSNBC host Willie Geist, Pelosi became visibly upset and said, “I say that that’s hogwash…It’s ridiculous…we said we were going to — I assigned committee chairs, six of them to develop the — the facts…but you have to act upon the facts…until we had the case, ready that’s when we went forward.”
In other words, before launching any formal inquiry into Trump, Pelosi felt like they needed all their ducks in a row first before proceeding with impeachment proceedings.
During his press conference McCarthy made it clear he would not be swayed by Democratic hypocrisy: “Nancy Pelosi has changed the rules of the House,” he told reporters “We’re just following through… All I said is an impeachment inquiry allows us to get answers…if you could see what I have seen…”
He then went on to explain that all these investigations are meant to uncover serious allegations against Biden which paint a picture of corruption in his administration; if these allegations can be proven true then there should be consequences for Biden’s actions regardless of who sits in office at any given moment.
