The move has been in the works for weeks but the Voice of America has finally been silenced. Censorship in general is not a good thing but when what you’re censoring is misleading radical propaganda to start with, it’s fully justified. President Donald Trump signed a sweeping order.
Voice of America
The Voice of America was meant to be spewing propaganda since it was created. Set up as a radio service during World War Two, it was specifically launched to “counter Nazi propaganda.”
Over the years, it became politically slanted hard left. It’s not fair for American taxpayers to fund media which attacks conservative U.S. citizens simply to advance a liberal agenda.
On Monday, March 17, President Donald Trump “signed an order to strip back federally funded news organization Voice of America, accusing it of being ‘anti-Trump‘ and ‘radical,‘” BBC reports.
The White House also issued a formal statement.
According to the press corps, Trump’s order will “ensure taxpayers are no longer on the hook for radical propaganda.”
They included specific “quotes from politicians and right-wing media criticizing the broadcaster.” Voice of America was spewing one-sided Democrat dogma to “hundreds of millions of people globally each week.”
Staff on the street
According to Mike Abramowitz, soon to be former director of Voice of America, “he and virtually his entire staff of 1,300 people had been put on paid leave.” The pay will stop soon. Since they’re all locked out of the office, “the order left VOA unable to carry out its vital mission.” There’s a lot of dispute from the right as to how appropriate their messaging has been.
The order “targets VOA’s parent company US Agency for Global Media (USAGM), which also funds non-profit entities such as Radio Free Europe and Radio Free Asia, which were originally set up to counter communism.” Now, they promote it instead.
Over at the National Press Club, which is a leading representative group for progressive journalists, they’re going frantic. Trump’s order, they gasp, “undermines America’s long-standing commitment to a free and independent press.”
Independent media outlets can print whatever they want but an outlet like Voice of America funded by taxpayers shouldn’t favor one political perspective over another.
The liberal left can’t figure out how to stop President Trump from making America great again. “An entire institution is being dismantled piece by piece. This isn’t just a staffing decision,” Abramowitz snivels.
“It’s a fundamental shift that endangers the future of independent journalism at VOA.” Voice of America wasn’t a provider of “independent” journalism. Every single thing they broadcast was supportive of radical progressive agenda items.
