On Wednesday, Attorney General William Barr made what President Donald Trump would call a “YUGE” announcement. Since July, more than 1,000 violent criminals were dragged off the streets of major metropolitan cities, and at least 217 of them were charged with federal crimes. As part of what the Department of Justice calls “Operation Legend,” the federal government is stepping in to provide law and order and busting a** in places where liberal officials refuse to do their jobs.
William Barr makes this one personal
So far, along with the arrests, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives rounded up nearly 400 firearms and removed them from the hands of criminals. AG Barr personally launched the mission on July 8 as “a sustained, systematic and coordinated law enforcement initiative.” The idea is for federal law enforcement to work together “with state and local law enforcement officials to fight violent crime,” the DOJ explains.
The project was “named in honor of 4-year-old LeGend Taliferro, who was shot and killed while he slept.” The alleged killer of the Kansas City, Missouri toddler, 22-year-old Ryson Ellis, faces second-degree murder charges and is behind bars in Tulsa County Jail. Attorney General Barr proclaimed LeGend as “a symbol of the many hundreds of innocent lives that have been taken in the recent upsurge of crime in many of our urban areas.” He didn’t come out and say it but everyone knows he meant the liberal ones.
AG Barr wants to rub the nose of every gang banger and Black Lives Matter anarchist they arrest into the fact that LeGend’s “life mattered and the lives of all of those victims matter.” Senseless death, he declares, “should be unacceptable to all Americans.”
More than 1,000 extra agents
Because the progressive mayors of many American cities refuse to actively enforce the laws, William Barr and the Department of Justice dispatched “more than 1,000 additional agents from the FBI, ATF, Drug Enforcement Administration and U.S. Marshals Service” to nine American cites. The idea is for them to “work shoulder to shoulder with state and local partners on homicide and assault squads to crack cases.”
Since liberal city councils keep insisting on defunding the police to cripple them and keep them out of the way of George Soros inspired anarchists, the federal government shelled out “$78.5 million in grants to support additional police positions, hire more prosecutors and improve technology to solve firearms crimes.” Attorney General William Barr does not like anarchy one bit and isn’t buying all the social-justice nonsense used to justify it.
There are a bunch of reasons, the attorney general explains, for the “spike” in violent crime recently, including “pent up aggression prompted by state and local quarantine orders.” On top of that, progressives were silly enough to okay “the premature release of dangerous criminals by the courts and prosecutors,” while ramping up efforts to “demonize police and defund their work.” William Barr wants to flip that script right back in the face of the New World Order. “Rather than demonizing and defunding our police, we are supporting and strengthening our law enforcement partners at the state and local level.”
