Democrats were supposed to be pushing Biden judicial nominees through the Senate in breakneck speed.
They had feared losing the Senate, so they wanted to get as many appointments approved as possible.
They failed miserably in the case of Judge Todd Edelman.
Not Happening
Edelman’s nomination will expire at the end of the 117th Congress.
The reason is that even Democrats had a problem supporting a man that set someone free who then murdered a 10-year-old boy.
You see, Christian Wingfield was brought before Judge Edelman for possession of an illegal firearm.
Instead of tossing him in prison where he belonged, Edelman slapped an ankle bracelet on him and let him out.
Not long after he was set free, he shot and killed Davon McNeal, a 10-year-old boy that was attending a “stop the violence” cookout.
Senator Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) told Edelman during his nomination hearing, “When you made the choice to release Mr. Wingfield, you knew these following facts.
“You knew that he had multiple arrests for illegally possessing a firearm.
“And you know that he had been identified as the person who, on another occasion, had been shooting a gun in the street at 1 p.m. in broad daylight.”
She later added, “We want our judges keeping criminals behind bars, not setting them free into our communities.
“A child is dead because Judge Edelman didn’t do his job, and now he wants a promotion.
“I cannot support a nominee who has shown such reckless disregard for his duty to keep Americans safe.”
Biden can re-nominate Edelman in the next session but based on the lack of support he received in this session, I would say that he would be wise to pick someone else.
