On Thursday, the Supreme Court made a major decision that will allow construction on the Mountain Valley Pipeline to resume.

This controversial pipeline project has been delayed due to legal challenges brought by environmental organizations opposed to it.

With this ruling, all that remains is the completion of 3.5 miles of pipeline through Jefferson National Forest and other stream crossings.

The 303-mile Mountain Valley Pipeline (MVP) will transport natural gas from West Virginia to Virginia.

It was approved by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission in 2017 but has since been facing numerous legal battles over its construction and operation due to objections from environmental groups.

They have argued that building the pipeline would be harmful for endangered species and also violate various environmental statutes.

Despite these issues, FERC gave the green light in late June for MVP’s construction, with plans for completion by late 2023 after construction of the remaining 3.5 miles had been completed.

These legal challenges were taken all the way up to the Supreme Court which ultimately granted a request to lift lower court orders that halted MVP’s progress and allowed for its resumption.

The brief order issued by the Supreme Court vacated stays imposed by U.S Court of Appeals for 4th Circuit in cases brought against it by environmental groups Wilderness Society and coalition comprising 10 other environment organizations who are looking into Fish & Wildlife Service, Bureau Of Land Management & US Forest Service authorizations concerning MVP segments running through Jefferson National Forest.

No dissents were noted as the Supreme Court approved this request unanimously without any opposition or discussion from either side involved in this case.

Construction work on this project can finally resume so as to complete it before 2023 ends so as not only speed up domestic natural gas supply delivery but also create jobs worth millions in local areas where MVP work is taking place.
