Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin has a teachers’ union in an uproar after announcing a new plan to ensure that teachers are not brainwashing students with far-left propaganda. Youngkin has established a tip line for Virginia parents to email if they discover that their children are being indoctrinated with critical race theory by teachers and schools in spite of the governor’s order that CRT be banned in state public schools.
Teachers can be reported for classroom extremism
The Virginia Educators Association is enraged by the creation of the tip line for a number of reasons, but they were probably already seething at the mere fact that Youngkin won his election in the first place.
Banning critical race theory was at the center of Youngkin’s platform, reflecting the wishes of the Virginians who gave him his upset victory.
Having won his election, the governor could have simply signed an order explicitly banning critical race theory. Instead, Youngkin has shown that he is serious about carrying out the will of the voters.
The ban extends beyond courses which explicitly teach critical race theory. Public schools have almost universally denied that they are teaching CRT and say that there is nothing to ban.
Of course, this is a lie which rests on a flimsy technicality. CRT is being taught in public schools, just without the label. The governor has fortunately recognized this in his ban and will not allow them to use such a cheap escape route.
The tip line is in place so that students and parents can report instances of schools teaching these extremist doctrines in defiance of the governor’s ban.
Union rebels against CRT ban
The teachers’ union claims that this is intimidation, but they have been lashing out constantly since Glenn Youngkin announced his intention to end CRT.
The real fury comes from the fact that this is another opportunity for parents to have some ability to control what schools are allowed to teach their children.
Teachers’ unions and other leftist forces do not believe that parents should be allowed to have any oversight. If teachers do not want parents to know what their children are being told, there is probably something nefarious going on.
The union apparently wants its supporters to spam the tip line and drown out legitimate concerns from parents, students , or good teachers.
Critical race theory is not taught in public schools, they say, but leftists certainly get extremely defensive when a Republican makes a sincere effort to ensure that it isn’t.
Glenn Youngkin was elected because he promised to purge Virginia schools of this anti-white and anti-American propaganda. If the leftist outcry is any indication, he seems to be doing well so far.
