This week, the new congressional leaders were elected.

For the Senate, the shock winner was Senator John Thune (R-S.D.), a Senator McConnell (R-KY) loyalist.

So, there was concern that he would try to block Trump the way McConnell had, but Thune says he is all in.

I Am on Board

The candidates were Senators Rick Scott (R-FL), John Cornyn (R-TX), and Thune.

Scott was the clear MAGA candidate, which is why I thought he would win this easily.

However, it turned out, he was the first one to go.

If not Scott, then I figured Cornyn, but Thune emerged as the leader, sending a loud gasp throughout MAGA land.

Rumors started to surface that Thune was the guy Trump wanted, but Trump never endorsed anyone in this race, unlike House leadership, where Trump again endorsed Speaker Johnson (R-LA).

Thune tried to calm everyone down after the leadership election.

He stated, “Now the real work begins delivering on our agenda.

“That starts with ending the Biden-Harris border crisis and deporting illegal immigrants.”

He also stated that he backs adding amendments to legislation, a point that was hotly contested during the last session.

Thune continued, “[A]ll members of the Senate, and not just the members of a particular committee, should have a voice in final legislation through amendments on the floor. Members should assume that amendment votes will be the norm.”

I am trying not to be negative about this pick, and I would love to be wrong, but I just get a McConnell vibe from Thune.

I will give him the benefit of the doubt until he gives me reason not to.
