CBS Caught Red-Handed AGAIN, Pushing Fraudulent ‘Footage’
You would think that the mainstream media would get tired of getting busted for misleading the public with FAKE NEWS. But CBS is at it again. This time, the media giant posted a misleading video to support the liberal narrative about the COVID-19 coronavirus crisis.
The video showed a nurse who claimed she was forced to work in a Covid-19 Intensive Care Unit without a mask. The video went viral and the Left quickly jumped on the story. It was visceral proof, they said, of how President Trump’s policies have created shortages.
But closer examination of both the video and, more importantly, the nurse in question, and the story quickly falls apart.
The Claim
The video shows a nurse tearfully telling the camera that she quit her job rather than work without a face mask. “America is not prepared, and nurses are not being protected. I quit my job today. I went into work and I was assigned to a COVID patient on an ICU unit that has been converted to a designated COVID unit. None of the nurses are wearing masks.”
That is a powerful and moving statement. But it is also a complete fabrication.
Checking the Facts
The nurse, identified as Imaris Vera, later clarified her experience.
“We were each assigned 1 N95 per 1 covid patient’s room, but was not allowed to wear it outside of the room, wear our own N95 mask around the Nurses station or Halls, which I came prepared with,” Vera tweeted.
That tweet immediately changes the narrative. Evidently, the nurses WERE given a new mask every time they worked with a coronavirus patient. Vera’s complaint was actually that she had to dispose of that mask between patients.
That is an established medical practice to prevent the spread of infection. As a nurse, Vera already knew that.
Facebook Tells the Story
The narrative changes even more after looking at Vera’s Facebook page.
Vera’s posts reveal that she suffers from both bipolar disorder and anxiety. She admits that she had not worked at the hospital for over a year. Most importantly, she admits that she wasn’t sure she was emotionally ready to return to the front lines of the fight against COVID-19.
“The information overload can be hard for me to sift through as far as what is credible and what is not, it triggers me,” Vera says in a Facebook post.
Of special relevance, a March 26th post revealed that Vera had been off for two weeks and that there was only one coronavirus patient in the entire county.
Lack of Fact-Checking
Instead of taking the time to verify Vera’s claims, CBS added captions and background music. They accepted her story at face value because it supports their left-leaning anti-Trump agenda.
Likewise, Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders immediately parroted the false story without checking the facts. On April 5, Sanders tweeted:
“It is insane that our nurses are being forced to care for the sick without masks and respirators. The Department of Labor must immediately issue emergency workplace standards to protect our health workers, their families, and their patients.”
The Power of Fake News
The CBS that showcased Vera’s video received almost 55,000 likes and 25,000 retweets. The story was shared again and again.
When CBS quietly issued a clarification, it generated less than a thousand likes. Bernie Sanders has yet to release a statement or retraction.-
