The conservative world took a collective gasp earlier today when Rush Limbaugh made a rather stunning announcement on his live radio show.

Limbaugh, who is 69 years old, announced that he had “advanced lung cancer.”

Sticking to Politics

For those that listen to Rush, they already know he rarely discusses personal details during his show.

That is what made the somber moment even more shocking.

He was clearly struggling with the decision to make this reveal to his radio audience but considering how much time he may be missing in upcoming days, weeks, and months, he felt obliged to his listeners.

Limbaugh stated, “This day has been one of the most difficult days in recent memory, for me, because I’ve known this moment was coming.

“I’m sure that you all know by now that I really don’t like talking about myself and I don’t like making things about me… one thing that I know, that has happened over the 31-plus years of this program is that there has been an incredible bond that had developed between all of you and me.”

After stating this radio show had provided him with the “greatest satisfaction and happiness” in his life, he would go on to say, “So, I have to tell you something today that I wish I didn’t have to tell you.

“It’s a struggle for me because I had to inform my staff earlier today.

“I can’t help but feel that I’m letting everybody down.

“The upshot is that I have been diagnosed with advanced lung cancer.”

He then revealed why he told his audience this news, stating, “I felt that I had to tell you because that’s the kind of relationship that I feel like I have with those of you in this audience.

“Over the years, a lot of people have been very nice, telling me how much this program has meant to them but, whatever that is, it pales in comparison to what you all have meant to me.”

Limbaugh is a giant in the conservative media world and has never shied away from telling it like he sees it, regardless of whom he pissed off.

We wish you well, Mr. Limbaugh, and hope you are able to beat this horrific disease.

We still have a big fight ahead of us and we need you in the thick of the battle, so know our thoughts are with you.
