On February 3rd of this year, listeners tuning in to The Rush Limbaugh Show were stunned by a shocking announcement. In a raw, heartfelt message to his faithful audience, Limbaugh announced, “…I have been diagnosed with advanced lung cancer.” He acknowledged the “incredible bond” he felt with his listeners and that he would “push ahead and keep everything as normal” as possible.

To say that the news was sobering is an understatement. Rush Limbaugh has been the unofficial —or perhaps even OFFICIAL — public voice of American Conservatism for over 30 years. His impact and influence on this country’s political scene might never be matched by another radio commentator.

Followers worldwide wonder what this means, both to the popular radio host and his legacy of pushing back against the Liberalism that threatens traditional American values and culture.

An Outpouring of Support

When the news first broke, social media was flooded with respect and support for Limbaugh.

“No one has done more to advance the cause of freedom than my friend, Rush Limbaugh. His brilliant analysis day after day, year after year represents a monumental contribution to conservative principles & a strong America. Our prayers are with him & his family for hope & healing.”

~ former U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions

“Rush Limbaugh just announced that he is battling advanced lung cancer. Praying for him during this difficult time. Fortunately, the man is a determined fighter filled with enormous strength & will power! Wishing you the best Rush!”

~ New York State Representative Lee Zeldin

“If you currently or have ever worked in conservative media, you owe Rush a debt of gratitude. He’s the founding father of this entire industry, and blazed the trail for the rest of us.”

~ Steve Deace, Radio host

“Pray for Rush and his family. Rush’s impact on the conservative movement can’t be overstated — nearly every conservative of my generation grew up listening to him — and that impact will be felt for decades to come.”

~ Ben Shapiro, Conservative commentator

The White House Reaches Out

Rush Limbaugh’s importance to the Conservative movement is such that even the two highest elected officials in the United States publicly voiced their support.

“Rush Limbaugh is a National Treasure who has made a difference on the airwaves of America for 30 years. Rush, Karen and I will be joining millions across this Country in praying for your swift recovery. God Bless You!”

~ Vice President Mike Pence

“Many people do not know what a great guy & fantastic political talent the great Rush Limbaugh is. There is nobody like him. Looking for a speedy recovery for our friend!”

~ President Donald Trump

Rush Limbaugh – A Rocky Road to Recovery

It hasn’t been exactly smooth sailing for Limbaugh as he presses forward in his fight against Stage 4 lung cancer. On March 27th, Limbaugh told his listeners that, against his doctors’ wishes, he had discontinued chemotherapy. Moving forward, he will be seeking alternative treatments.

The issue was the chemotherapy had caused serious fluid retention and excruciating swelling of his legs. It got so bad that the 69 year-old Limbaugh required the use of a wheelchair.

After about five weeks on this stuff, it all just hit me, and all of last week I was unable to get out of bed, primarily because I couldn’t walk…. We just kept going with the treatment hoping that it would be something my system would metabolize and move beyond, but it didn’t,” he said.

Right Now, The News is Great

A few days later, Limbaugh sounded much improved, and even optimistic. Free from the chemotherapy and taking steroids, he felt well enough to give a positive update.

“I’m actually feeling better than I have in about a month. I’m actually feeling what I would call normal prior to the cancer diagnosis… And I’m in a temporary hold right now…be confident here that I’m feeling better than I have in a long, long time.”

Limbaugh’s positive attitude is encouraging and absolutely vital with such a serious diagnosis. He will need that as he continues to fight his lung cancer. But he has a history of being a fighter, and he has millions of people praying and sending him positive energy.

Everyone here at the Right Wing News Hour continues to wish Rush Limbaugh a speedy return to good health.
