It is no secret that Joe Biden and his vice president, Kamala Harris, have been facing increased scrutiny since their election in 2020. Despite being the current President of the United States, polls show that a majority of Americans are unhappy with Biden’s competence to complete a second term.
As a result, there has been an effort to replace both him and Harris on the 2024 Democratic ticket and names such as Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Marianne Williamson, Gavin Newsom, Gretchen Whitmer and Pete Buttigieg have all surfaced as potential candidates.
With time running out for Democrats to find another candidate for the general election, Fox News recently reported that they would need to act soon if they want someone other than Biden to be their nominee in 2024.
The party already has a process in place – from January through June of next year Democrat voters will head to the polls and select who their presidential nominee will be however, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Marianne Williamson or any other potential Democratic candidate may not be able to make up for the lack of enthusiasm from Democrat voters towards them.
Gavin Newsom is viewed as one of the most likely contenders however, it is also worth mentioning that he has been somewhat seen as a nuisance by White House officials and Harris’ staff members.
Other possible nominees includes Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer or Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg – both of whom have maintained high profiles while serving in the Biden Cabinet but may not be enough competition against Biden himself should he win the nomination which seems likely at this point.
Any new candidates who may want to challenge Joe Biden’s spot on the Democratic ticket still have a few weeks left before filing deadlines occur across many states.
