The Department of Justice’s Special Counsel, Jack Smith, has come under fire by Eric Trump over the investigation into his father Donald Trump’s home at Mar-a-Lago.
In an interview with Newsmax guest host Representative Matt Gaetz on Rob Schmitt Tonight, Eric blasted Smith for misusing statutes and raiding his family’s home.
In the interview, Eric argued that this investigation was politically motivated: “They are doing anything they can to take down my father. Everybody forgets that Jack Smith’s wife was the one who did the Michelle Obama documentary.”
He continued to say, “Isn’t it really convenient that she’s team Michelle Obama and happens to be the person that’s going after Donald Trump when…my father’s leading Biden by five points.”
He also pointed out that DeSantis is “beating Biden in every single poll on a national level.”
This isn’t the first time members of the Trumps have spoken out about this raid.
Last year, after FBI agents raided Mar-a-Lago where they later found classified documents taken from The White House, Donald spoke out about how Barron’s room was destroyed in their search.
“They rifled through the first lady’s closet drawers,” he said, “and even did a deep and ugly search of the room of my 16-year-old son — leaving everything they touched in far different condition than it was when they started.”
Eric echoed these thoughts in his interview with Matt Gaetz saying “it’s disgraceful”.
Eric concluded his interview expressing concern for what he sees as damaged confidence in law enforcement agencies:
“I am fearful for this country…because…our country can’t last this way. They’ve lost so much confidence of the American people. The FBI’s not respected the way it was before and it’s so sad to say that because it used to be a great institution.”
