Even though Brazil is one of the largest markets for X, Elon Musk’s social media platform will no longer be able to operate in the country.

Musk got into a bit of a feud with a Brazilian Justice, and now the platform has been banned.

Musk was told to hire local legal representation within a certain window, which he did not do, and the order was given to ban X.

No More

This all started when a Brazilian justice demanded X censor certain accounts that it deemed to be spreading misinformation.

X refused to comply, so Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes ordered the court to review the alleged violation.

The majority supported de Moraes ban, but there was at least one dissenting opinion.

Justice Flávio Dino argued that “freedom of expression is closely linked to a duty of responsibility.

“The first can’t exist without the second, and vice-versa.”

Musk responded to the ban, stating, “Free speech is the bedrock of democracy and an unelected pseudo-judge in Brazil is destroying it for political purposes.”

The court has since ordered Apple and Android stores to stop offering the app within five days as well as iOS and Android blocking X from being available to use in Brazil.

This has led to an abundance of new users for Bluesky, which has already seen more than half a million new subscribers.

Bluesky CEO Jay Graber posted, “Good job Brazil, you made the right choice.”

I guess we can assume that Graber is open to being censored by the government, otherwise, how did Brazil make the right choice?
