It would appear that the case being brought by Fulton County DA Fani Willis is now living on fumes.
The hearing for arguments on the appeal to have Willis disqualified from the case has been canceled by the court.
Legal experts believe this could be a sign that the case is about to be put on ice for the foreseeable future.
Delayed
The court did not give a reason, only stating that the hearing was canceled “until further order of this court.”
The case against Trump cannot proceed until this issue is settled, and it will also impact eight other cases that were involved in the suit.
With Trump about to return to the White House, federal cases have to be put on hold, but state cases do not have to adhere to federal law.
That said, most experts believe that state courts would respect the rule that a sitting president cannot be tried in federal court.
If that is what is happening there, the courts are now deciding to either dismiss the case outright or put it on ice until after Trump leaves office at the end of his term in 2029.
According to reports in the Special Counsel Jack Smith cases, Smith is now working to wind down these cases against Trump.
Smith knows he cannot put Trump on trial as president, and with these cases nowhere near being ready to head to trial, he can either wait four years or drop the charges.
Most legal experts believe that Smith will drop the charges, saving Trump a major headache in the process.
Trump has stated several times that the moment he goes into office, he will have Jack Smith fired.
Trump cannot fire Smith directly, but he can have his AG do so, but I believe that would result in Democrats pushing for both of them to be impeached.
If Smith voluntarily shuts down the case, Trump avoids that mess as well as now having peace of mind that this is not waiting for him on the other side of his term.
