Halloween Party Turns Deadly With Mass Shooting

Halloween party

It isn’t the kind of scare you hope to experience on Halloween. A mass shooting at a Halloween party in Texas left one man dead and several individuals wounded. There were at least 11 Halloween mass shootings throughout the country over the weekend; in fact, this wasn’t even the only one in Texas. This is according to criteria employed by CNN, which defines a mass shooting as one which leaves at least four individuals killed or wounded.

Halloween party shootings in multiple states

Police estimated that at least 200 people were present at the Texarkana event venue where 21-year-old  Keuntae McElroy is accused of opening fire after a “disturbance.”

The 20-year-old man he shot and killed was only one of at least 12 people who were killed in mass shootings over the weekend. 52 more were injured at the various shootings.

The other Texas shooting took place at a Halloween party in Houston and left one 18-year-old woman dead and three other “young adults” injured.

The crowd at this party apparently scattered when police showed up to the scene and evidently none of the witnesses have willingly stepped forward to offer information about the shooting.

Chicago had at least three party mass shootings, but that’s just a normal weekend for Chicago. Dozens of people were shot over the weekend in that city but the numbers are nothing out of the ordinary.

Colorado and Kentucky each had one major Halloween shooting. Each of these left two people dead and two more injured.

CNN blames socioeconomic factors

Other than Illinois and Texas, California managed to accumulate the most party shootings, which cumulatively left three dead and eight wounded.

Most of the shootings appear to have been limited in scope and it is likely that a majority were related to gang activity, though the number of injuries implies no special concern for bystanders.

CNN helpfully attributes the wave of mass shootings to “social and economic factors.” They do not specify which social and economic factors are particularly likely to make someone shoot up a Halloween party.

Reading between the lines, it seems that a general lack of cooperation with the police was a feature in at least some of these cases.

Other than the pandemic, can we think of anything that happened in 2020 which might have placed more violent criminals back on the streets and inspired certain crowds to not help the police with their investigations?

Liberals have suggested many outlandish solutions for curbing the rising gun violence in urban areas. None of these solutions involve cracking down on criminals themselves.
