Over the last few days, Kamala Harris has been politicizing the hurricane recovery to go to war with Florida Governor Ron DeSantis.
Harris, who has never been involved in disaster response, all of a sudden wants to be front and center.
When she accused Governor DeSantis of snubbing her and playing politics, Biden backed up DeSantis.
Not Time for This
I have never been a fan of politicians politicizing disasters in real-time, but that is what is happening here on both sides.
I have always believed there is plenty of time after the fact to criticize, but in real-time, everyone should be focused on doing whatever it takes to get the job done.
This close to the election, however, both sides are throwing haymakers.
This got started when Donald Trump accused Biden of dropping the ball in Georgia, even after Governor Kemp had stated that Biden was doing everything he needed. Kemp changed his tune after Trump criticized Biden, but that has not been the case in Florida.
DeSantis stated that Biden has given him everything he has needed, but Harris was the one throwing bombs here.
She claimed that DeSantis was snubbing her and refusing to take her calls, but why would he even think Harris would be calling? She has never been involved in any disaster relief efforts before.
To that point, when the media pressed DeSantis on the issue, he responded, “I didn’t know that she had called. I’m not sure who they called. They didn’t call me.
“Their characterization of it was something that they did. It wasn’t anything that anybody in my office did, in terms of saying it was political.”
The media was hoping that Joe Biden would pour it on to defend Harris, but that did not happen.
Biden defended DeSantis, stating, “The governor of Florida has been cooperative. He said he’s gotten all that he needs. I talked to him again yesterday, and I said – no – you’re doing a great job, it’s all being done well and we thank you for it.
“There was a rough start in some places, but every governor, every governor – from Florida to North Carolina – has been fully cooperative and supportive.”
Fox News contributor Joe Concha believes that Biden did that to actually take a shot at Harris for having cut Biden out of the election and her campaign.
He stated, “This is all intentional by Biden and his camp (namely Jill).
“You think this guy is going to just allow Kamala and his party just sweep him aside completely? He played along at first, but now he’s pissed.”
Harris is clearly only involved in the recovery efforts to score political points, so I am glad that Biden stood up and did the right thing here, regardless of his motiviation.
Now, everyone put their swords away and concentrate on getting those impacted by these hurricanes the help they need.
