Over the last few years, Canadian PM Justin Trudeau has been under some serious fire.
That heat got turned up even more after Donald Trump won the election, with Trump immediately threatening Canada and Mexico with tariffs if they don’t start blocking border crossers.
Now, there are reports that Trudeau is considering resigning, which would be great news for Trump.
Should I Stay or Should I Go
Trudeau has been in office for nearly a decade, but the last few years have been dicey, and his party is hanging on by a thread.
What amazes me is that the party has continued to allow him to stay the leader when the people of Canada clearly do not like him.
The videos online right now are pretty amazing, with people literally calling him out to his face in public and town halls.
Party leaders are also starting to get the message, openly pushing for change.
Montreal’s Liberal Party MP Anthony Housefather stated, “Incumbents have a certain shelf life in social media age. I believe the prime minister has passed that shelf life.
“And I think that for Canadians to have a real choice on the table in terms of things that they will go beyond just saying do they want him to be prime minister or not.
“We need to have a different leader with a different vision for the Liberal Party to be viable in the next election.”
Ontario MP Chad Collins added, “I’m not going to breach confidentiality in terms of what happened in caucus, but I can say we’re not united.
“There’s still a number of our members who feel we need a change in leadership. I’m one of those.”
With Trump about to take office, the party better start to consider removing Trudeau sooner rather than later.
However, I will say that Trudeau seems to be taking this rather seriously, having recently come to Mar-a-Lago for one-on-one with Trump.
There were also reports that he tinkered with the country’s immigration policies to tighten up the border.
Regardless, I just don’t see how he can remain in power for much longer before his party removes him or they get voted out of power.
