Hillary Clinton is under fire for an insensitive tweet she made about President Trump and the COVID-19 coronavirus crisis. The former First Lady, Senator, Secretary of State, and failed Presidential candidate seemed to make light of U.S. deaths as a means of scoring points.

He did promise America First,” she tweeted.

With just 29 characters, Secretary Clinton managed to take a barbed swing at the President, using one of his own phrases. Mocking President Trump right now is bad form, and it reeks of playing politics during a major public health crisis. That on its own is bad enough.

But she also seems to be mocking the fact that the number of coronavirus cases in the United States has surpassed those of other countries. As of this writing, there have been nearly 191,000 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in America, overtaking China. Almost 4,100 people have died.

A National State of Emergency has been declared. Entire industries are shut down, and millions of people are out of work. Citizens around the country are afraid to leave their homes for fear of contracting the virus.

These are not matters to joke about, despite what Secretary Clinton may think.

Clinton Slammed on Twitter

The reactions to Clinton’s insensitive tweet were swift and savage, from both conservative commentators and the general public:

Former agent with the Presidential Protection Division Dan Bongino tweeted:

A disgusting tweet, from the most disgusting person I ever worked with in the Secret Service.”

The most damning tweet came from Jack Posobiec of the One America News Network:

Not the first time you’ve laughed as Americans died.”

Posobiec, himself a veteran of the Naval Reserves, is of course referring to Clinton’s documented failures as Secretary of State that lead to the deaths of four Americans during  the 2012 Benghazi attack. When questioned in the past about the lack of adequate security that could have prevented those deaths, Clinton denied responsibility, saying, “(it) was not my ball to carry.”

“Now is Not the Time”

Representative Dan Crenshaw, the Republican Congressman from Texas, strongly criticized Clinton for her words and for taking “cheap political jabs”.

“There is a pandemic going on and somebody like Hillary Clinton is so used to taking political jabs at the president or her political opponents any time there’s an outcome that is unfortunate, but this isn’t the time. This is a tragedy for all Americans and the entire world,” Crenshaw said on “Fox & Friends”.

Addressing Clinton directly through the camera, he listed a  number of what he called “the good things happening” — increased production of personal production equipment, ramped-up virus testing, factories manufacturing more ventilators, and  doctors coming out of retirement to help.

Now, let’s celebrate this stuff. Let’s work together, let’s stop looking for cheap political jabs to take at each other and actually get through this.”

He also tweeted in response, “Delete your account. This isn’t the time. This can’t be the new normal, where American tragedy is applauded for the sake of political opportunism.
