Key Trump Nomination Withdraws

I think most people would agree that overall, conservatives like Donald Trump’s nominees.

There are a handful, however, that are being heavily criticized on both sides of the aisle.

One of those picks is Trump’s pick to head the DEA, Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister.

Rejected

Chronister faced pushback on the right as soon as his name was mentioned.

If you recall, Chronister was rather aggressive during the COVID lockdowns, which is why GOP officials have pushed back.

He had ordered the arrest of a local pastor for defying lockdowns, but the charges were eventually dropped.

Rep. Massie (R-KY) is among those who wanted Chronister blocked, stating, “I’m going to call ‘em like I see ’em. Trump’s nominee for head of DEA should be disqualified for ordering the arrest [of] a pastor who defied COVID lockdowns.”

Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX) is also against the pick, stating, “We don’t need authoritarians who refuse to use discretion and protect the Constitution – no matter which party is in power.”

Chronister clearly got the message that there would be resistance, so he decided to withdraw his name.

On Tuesday night, he stated, “Over the past several days, as the gravity of this very important responsibility set in, I’ve concluded that I must respectfully withdraw from consideration.

“There is more work to be done for the citizens of Hillsborough County and a lot of initiatives I am committed to fulfilling.

“I sincerely appreciate the nomination, outpouring of support by the American people, and look forward to continuing my service as Sheriff of Hillsborough County.”

This is now the second Trump nominee to withdraw, with Matt Gaetz removing his name from consideration as the AG.

While I believe most of Trump’s nominees will pass, RFK Jr., Gabbard, Noem, Patel, and Hegseth could all face resistance during the Senate confirmation process.

I would be surprised if all of them made it through, especially Patel, who has people on both sides of the aisle who do not want to see him in charge of the FBI.
