Alejandro Mayorkas has been derelict in his duty. That’s what the House Homeland Security Committee declared. Last week, they released a preliminary report which “marks the beginning of an investigation” into the Department of Homeland Security for “dereliction of duty.”
Mayorkas to be investigated
The House Homeland Security Committee released a report June 14 with the title: “Causes, Costs, and Consequences: Why Secretary Mayorkas Must Be Investigated for His Border Crisis.”
From the very first sentence, the committee goes for the throat. As FairUS notes, “The report opens with a damning executive summary, focusing on Mayorkas’ failure to secure our borders and enforce our immigration laws.”
“Specifically,” the report notes, “as the top cabinet official charged with defending and securing the homeland, Mayorkas has a responsibility to the American people to uphold his oath of office, and to protect and defend the homeland.” It’s clear that he hasn’t been doing his job.

That’s why the probe is focusing on whether the official “has violated his oath, failed to carry out his constitutional obligations to the homeland, and been derelict in his duty.” If so, they recommend coming down on him like a ton of bricks.
Biden’s handlers aren’t worried. “Bring it on,” they boast. “The Committee’s investigation is a welcome one, as the Biden Administration has embraced open-border policies from the very start.” That’s an understatement.
The report spells out, since January 2021, Alejandro Mayorkas “has ended border wall construction, the Migrant Protection Protocols (commonly known as Remain in Mexico), asylum cooperative agreements (ACAs) with El Salvador, Guatemala, and Honduras, and, most recently, Title 42 public health authority to expel illegal aliens.”
Five stages of investigation
The committee’s chairman, Mark Green laid out the framework of what to expect. The Tennessee lawmaker relates that “over the next three months, the Committee will examine Secretary Mayorkas’ failure to enforce our immigration laws, and the consequences of that failure.”
They plan to do that in five distinct phases. First, they’re going squarely after Mayorkas for dereliction of duty by “examining the abuse of our immigration laws” and the way he thumbed his nose at court orders.
After that, they’re going to focus in on how Mayorkas made things so much easier for the drug cartels by “documenting the increase in cartel violence, drug trafficking and human trafficking.” Then, they’re looking into the “human costs.”

The committee will be “considering the rise in drug overdoses, increase in criminal activity, and lives lost to violence.” Along with that they’ll delve into the “rising dollar costs.” That means “reviewing the high price of illegal immigration, including costs in areas like healthcare, education, and law enforcement.” All the way through, they’ll be relying on “firsthand accounts.”
The key to understanding what really happened requires “hearing from key inside sources on how the law is being abused.” The preliminary report is already floating around and the committee plans to supplement that “with additional information in each of the five phases.”
They also plan to “hold further hearings examining how Mayorkas’ policies and leadership have exacerbated the border crisis in those areas.” He’s basically doing whatever he wants without any authority to do it. Mayorkas has flat out refused to “enforce our immigration laws.” The next step after the investigation, they promise, is impeachment.
