You can always tell the true muster of a politician by how they act during a crisis.
When emergency legislation is needed, do they push through dry legislation or do they put a bunch of poison pills in there to push a partisan agenda?
On that front, Nancy Pelosi has failed epically.
Special Interests Over Americans
The stimulus bill needed should be short and sweet.
We need money for corporations with stipulations that they do not pay bonuses, give pay raises, or do stock buybacks for a specified period after this crisis.
For small business owners, we need funding that will enable them to continue to pay their bills, payroll, and a reasonable salary for themselves so they can keep their families afloat.
For individuals, we need extended unemployment benefits and possibly stimulus checks for lost salary due to the shutdown.
We don’t need an epic bill that is more than 1,400 pages long in the hopes of pushing through partisan legislation, but that is exactly what House Speaker Pelosi (D-CA) is trying to do.
Pelosi has created a wish-list bill that covers virtually every major Democrat platform issue and she is trying to push it through as part of this stimulus legislation.
For instance, she has emissions for airlines, student loan forgiveness, voting laws, collective bargaining powers for unions, a post office bailout, and the expansion of wind and solar credits.
The list is much longer than this, but you get the idea.
Former Chicago mayor and Obama staffer Rahm Emanuel is famous for saying that you should never let a good crisis go to waste, which is what Pelosi is doing here.
The idea is that with the country reeling, if you stand your ground long enough, the other side caves and you get to push through your agenda on legislation the country must have ASAP.
While all this is going on, Democrats are trying to portray Republicans as the bad guys and the media is just eating it all up.
The longer this legislation is delayed, the more it benefits the Democrats because, with each passing day, the threat of a long recession becomes more of a reality.
And that is exactly what they need to take over the White House come election day.
