Congressman Byron Donalds has emerged as a top potential candidate for the Republican Party as they continue the search for new political figures capable of leading the party forward. During his time representing the 19th District of Florida, Donalds has distinguished himself as a prominent conservative leader and vocal supporter of former President Donald Trump’s agenda.
His entry into the gubernatorial race could further energize Florida’s Republican base and help shape future policy decisions in Tallahassee.
Donalds recently confirmed his consideration for a gubernatorial run while speaking with Fox News Digital.
At the same time, he stated that his primary objective was to see Trump return to office, emphasizing his commitment to ensuring Biden serves only one term: “I’m committed to making Biden a one-term president,” said Donalds. “We’ll focus on that other stuff after President Trump gets inaugurated.”
While speculation surrounding Rep. Matt Gaetz joining the race in 2026 remains rampant, Gaetz clarified his current political stance by stating: “Many did encourage me to consider running for governor one day. But we have an outstanding governor who will be in that position through 2026. My only political focus right now is Trump 2024.”
Nonetheless, rumors continue to circulate regarding Gaetz’s intentions after attending a reception held by Miami Republican state Rep Danny Perez Sunday evening where he hinted at his interest in potentially running for governor of Florida down the road – indicating just how important this election could be if either figure ultimately becomes involved.
Despite all this speculation surrounding potential future candidates for governorship in 2026, current Governor Ron DeSantis remains popular among Republicans who are impressed by his handling of several issues such as pandemic response efforts, climate change initiatives and economic development programs.
His current term runs until January 2027 so there’s still some time before voters will have to decide whether or not they want him back in office again or if its time for someone new.
