Massive Houston Fire Continues to Burn For Second Day

Residents in northwest Houston are likely seeing and smelling smoke as the large mulch fire continues to burn for a second day.

On Sunday afternoon, just after 2 p.m., flames were first reported at the Living Earth landscaping facility on 5802 Crawford Road in Carverdale.

SkyEye flew over the facility Monday morning, showing the mulch still burning and sending plumes of smoke into the air.

Houston Fire Chief Sam Peña has stated that no shelter in place or evacuations have been necessary, although officials are monitoring air quality closely.

Peña advises anyone prone to respiratory problems to remain indoors or cover with a mask when outside near the area.

The fire department is not putting any more water on the fire but rather waiting for it to burn itself out, which could take days before it stops flaming completely.

Over 100 firefighters rotated throughout Sunday alone in order to try and extinguish these flames without success thus far.

Officials did not provide details on how this fire began but there will be an arson investigation conducted soon enough.

Fortunately, this fire was kept within the containment of Living Earth landscaping and luckily there have been no civilian nor firefighter injuries reported yet due to its spread.

This is not ABC13’s first time covering another similar situation at this same location – they previously covered another blaze occurring here back in February of this year as well.
