The man who shot and killed David Dorn will never breathe free air again.
He will live behind bars every second of every day until he is put into the ground.
Stephan Cannon has been sentenced to life in prison without parole.
He is 26 years old.
Life is Over
Dorn was a retired police captain serving as a security guard when he was killed.
Cannon shot and killed Dorn outside of Lee’s Pawn Shop in June 2020 during the rioting after the death of George Floyd.
His mother, of course, says her son is a good boy.
After the verdict was handed down, she stated, “I’m ok with (the sentence) because I’m going to fight to make sure my son comes home because he did not shoot that captain.
“He wasn’t raised like that. He was raised in church all his life, he’s a man of God, he has a 1-year-old son.”
Cannon was identified in surveillance images, his ID confirmed by Mark Jackson, who drove the getaway car, and another woman who lived with Cannon.
His mother continued, “He was in the wrong place at the wrong time.
“I don’t understand why an innocent young man has to go to jail for a murder he did not commit.
“I want justice for my son, just as well as they want justice for Capt. Dorn. I’m sorry that happened to that Captain, but my son is innocent. He wouldn’t harm anybody.”
Oh, her son is getting justice alright…
Judge sentences him to life without parole on the murder charge,
5 years for count 2,
robbery 10 years,
4 ACA 5 years,
5 burglary 5 years,
6 ACA 5 years.
All sentences are consecutive to each other.— Christine Byers (@ChristineDByers) October 5, 2022
Dorn’s son, Brian Powell, had some advice for the murderer.
He told him, “I hope your eyes are woke. You still have time to get everything together and make amends with your maker.”
A member of Cannon’s family gave the Dorn’s the finger on the way out of the courtroom, so I am thinking that advice will not be well heeded.
