Retail merchants in Portland have declared defeat. The anarchists won, which puts the entire community “in peril,” the owner of Rains PDX writes. The dire words of warning are posted on the front door of the business, explaining why they’re closed for good.
Portland retailers surrender
Yet another retail merchant in Portland, Oregon has declared defeat and surrendered to the evil forces of Antifa darkness. Clothing shop Rains PDX is gone forever.
A “string of break-ins” left the store “financially gutted.” They left a little note on their front door, advising their clientele of a need to shoplift elsewhere.
“Our city is in peril,” the printed note begins. “Small businesses (and large) cannot sustain doing business, in our city’s current state. We have no protection, or recourse, against the criminal behavior that goes unpunished.”

Portland socialists have shared the wealth until the pile is gone. Contrary to popular belief, insurance doesn’t cover the losses.
“Do not be fooled into thinking that insurance companies cover losses. We have sustained 15 break-ins.” That level of theft is not covered. “We have not received any financial reimbursement since the 3rd.” Owner Marcy Landolfo has had it.
The past year and a half proved to her that “the business can’t survive the financial burdens the crimes have cost the shop.” Every other retailer in the lawless city of Portland agrees. The insurance companies aren’t going to pay for the lack of police protection. Sales taxes go to social safety net programs while the cops are defunded out of existence.
Can’t sustain the losses
“The problem is, as small businesses, we cannot sustain those types of losses and stay in business. I won’t even go into the numbers of how much has been out of pocket.”
The thieves are more organized than Portland officials. “The products that are being targeted are the very expensive winter products and I just felt like the minute I get those in the store they’re going to get stolen.”
Fresh data shows that Portland can blame Multnomah County District Attorney Mike Schmidt.
Very sad. Clearly criminals run the streets now. Police don't have the resources or motivation anymore. If the police arrested shop lifters criminals etc, they are back on the street shortly after. Whats the point of arresting them?

That’s because he’s “prosecuting less than half of all misdemeanor theft cases sent to his office by police.” Steven Lien, owner of retail store UnderU4men is going to be following Ms. Landolfo out the door. “When there’s not prosecution for shoplifting — that’s a big problem.”
One local news outlet documented Portland thieves “stealing armloads of merchandise and walking right out the front door with no fear of being caught.” Merchants don’t have much they can do.
“We have situations where a shoplifter will actually say, ‘You’re not going to prosecute me. I’m not going to jail.” They’re totally right. Welcome to the New World Order.
