Unsatisfied Surgical Patient Resorted to Deadly Violence

Skyrocketing deadly violence incident numbers have less to do with freely available weapons than failed liberal policies but Democrats will never see it that way. Michael Lewis was unhappy with the follow-up care he was getting from his surgeon, Dr. Preston Phillips. He used his dissatisfaction as complete and total justification to execute Dr. Phillips, and murder anyone else who dared to stand in his way. That worked out to be a patient, a receptionist and another doctor. Laws don’t matter to those who can’t read or comprehend them. Or, care about facing non-existent consequences.

Violence just because

While liberal America goes spastic over the gun control aspects, conservatives wonder why nobody wants to talk about the overall breakdown of law and social order engineered by the liberal left. That’s what brought us to the point where senseless violence is an everyday occurrence. People shoot each other “just because.” Any perceived slight, from cutting someone off on the freeway, to wearing the wrong sneakers, can be your fatal mistake.

Weapons, body armor and steel plated vehicles have become modern necessities just to go grocery shopping at the local Walmart. We no longer have law and order because nobody knows how to administer it. Even if they did, the powers that be who assumed control won’t allow prosecutors to prosecute anyone. Actions no longer have consequences, so personal responsibility is right out the window.

It’s a virtual certainty that before he had his surgery, Mr. Lewis had consultations with his surgeon on the advantages and disadvantages of the advised procedure. Dr. Phillips surely explained that even the greatest surgeon in the world can’t guarantee results and that sometimes things don’t go as planned.

Lewis also would have been required to initial and sign repeatedly all the disclaimers saying he understood that this can go wrong and that can go wrong and nobody can be held responsible for it. He initialed and signed because he wanted the pain to go away. He knew there was no guarantee but had no choice. When the pain didn’t go away, he simply resorted to violence and killed his surgeon. So, there!

The pain did go away for Mr. Lewis. When he shot himself. All the responsibility for the murders of four innocent victims went away, too. It’s all over for him. Meanwhile, the families of the victims and the rest of society are stuck dealing with the losses and cleaning up the mess.

Making weapons harder to get won’t solve the violence problem. The next massacre will just involve a hammer or a pickup truck. Both of those kill more Americans, every day, than assault weapons do.

A catastrophic scene

Police described the scene of violence at the Natalie Building as “catastrophic.” Part of the St. Francis Hospital campus in Tulsa, Oklahoma, it houses offices for an outpatient surgery clinic and a breast health center.

The 35-year-old gunman boldly walked in without an appointment, demanding to see Dr. Phillips. He was armed with a rifle and a handgun so didn’t expect to wait long. “It wasn’t random,” Captain Richard Meulenberg of the Tulsa Police Department relates. “This wasn’t an individual who just decided he wanted to go find a hospital full of random people.

When cops searched his home on a tip there might be a bomb there, they didn’t find one. They did find a letter nailing down exactly what the cause of all the violence was, though.

We have also found a letter on the suspect which made it clear that he came in with the intent to kill Dr. Phillips and anyone who got in his way.” The suspect went into the hospital for a back surgery on May 19 and the performing physician was Dr. Preston Phillips.

Lewis was released on May 24, but “right after release, Louis called several times over several days complaining of pain and wanted additional treatment.” He saw the doctor May 31 for “additional treatment.”

The day before the violence occurred, he was “complaining of back pain and wanting additional assistance.” Louis was going to get it one way or another and didn’t care what the contract said.
