Another Shot As Crime Rates Skyrocket Nationwide

According to a release from the Gwinnett County Police Department, “Gwinnett County Police detectives are investigating a homicide that occurred at the InTown Suites on Stone Mountain Hwy. South Precinct officers responded to a “Person Shot” call at about 4:30 am. When officers arrived, they located a female inside a room suffering from at least one gunshot wound. Paramedics arrived shortly after police, but unfortunately, the female was deceased.

Homicide detectives are currently investigating, and the Crime Scene Unit is processing the scene.  Detectives are still working on the timeline of events that led up to the homicide.”

Atlanta News Talk 95.5 WSB reported, “Channel 2′s Kristen Holloway said the back side of the motel is blocked off by crime scene tape as investigators collect evidence. Police said at this time, it appears the suspect was not in the same room as the victim.

“We’re trying to figure out right now where the shot came from, who it came from and why it happened,” a police spokesman told Holloway.

No description of the suspect is available at this time.”

Gwinnett County Police have not released any additional information about the victim pending notification of her next of kin other than the fact that she is an adult female. No arrests have been made, and investigators are trying to determine what events led to the fatal shooting and whether or not the woman was specifically targeted or was an unfortunate bystander.

Provisional murder rates from the CDC’s National Center for Health Statistics, released in early September 2021, showed the homicide rate for the United States rose 30% between 2019 and 2020. It was the highest increase recorded in modern history confirming with public health data a rise in homicides independently identified in crime statistics.
