Israel’s tensely awaited ground assault on Gaza has begun. The offensive fighting is fully underway but the real fight will be far below ground. Hamas has at least two separate spiderwebs of tunnels under the city, which is densely packed with Palestinian citizens. One set of tunnels lies “several kilometers underground.” It’s half the size of the New York City subway system.
Gaza infantry on the move
On Saturday, October 28, Israel “expanded its ground operation in Gaza.” The nightly raids have been replaced with “infantry and armored vehicles.” The ground troops are “backed by ‘massive‘ strikes from the air and sea.”
That includes “the bombing of Hamas tunnels.” Those happen to be “a key target in its campaign to crush the territory’s ruling group after its bloody incursion in Israel three weeks ago.” Those underground tunnels reveal a tricky flaw in the realities of modern warfare.
The old saying that “all’s fair in love and war” has been canceled by woke interpretation. There are rules to battlefield engagement which prevent the IDF from bringing the conflict in Gaza to a quick and decisive resolution. A couple “bunker busters” could solve the entire Hamas problem in an afternoon.
????????????????????‼️ Devastation in Gaza … that crazy.

The global banking interests backing violence, by selling arms to both sides of every conflict, have arranged a way to insure that there’s always a war going on somewhere. They also go out of their way to ensure it will last as long as one side still has enough money to buy bullets. Responsible governments have to play by the rules. Toasting “innocent” civilians is considered a major faux pas.
These particular Palestinian civilians aren’t all that innocent. Israel gave the innocent ones a fair chance to hightail it out of the conflict zone. Any who remain are volunteers fighting for Hamas, even if all they’re doing is acting as human shields.
Everyone is complaining that the IDF “knocked out communications in Gaza, creating a near-blackout of information from the besieged enclave.” The world has to rely on the invader’s side of the story.
Two commanders killed
Israel is on the scoreboard with two confirmed kills of “key Hamas military commanders.” They were wasted overnight and have been replaced by their nervous lieutenants. Normally, there are 2.3 million people living in Gaza City. The UN is reporting that “1.4 million people have fled their homes.”
That means almost a million are sticking around. They’re coping with “isolation, huddling in homes and shelters with food and water supplies running out.” They haven’t had power since the start of the war.
There are still over 200 hostages held somewhere beneath the city. Hamas is holding them as an insurance policy but it might not do them any good. It would be a tragedy if the hostages were killed in the fighting but Hamas would be the ones responsible for their deaths, by taking them hostage in the first place, then refusing to let them leave Gaza when given the opportunity.

Weak kneed liberals were insisting that Israel hold off on the ground offensive until the hostages were released. They waited long enough and it’ time to go in.
The idea seems to be to clear away the Gaza City buildings on the surface with tanks and rockets to expose the Hamas tunnels. It’s not clear what tactics will be used on the tunnels themselves.
It will make a difference on which set of tunnels is targeted. One set of tunnels is fairly near the surface, while the second one is far deeper. It’s also huge, reportedly half the size of the New York City subway system.
