Police were called to the Gorham Country Club golf course at about 7:45 p.m. When they arrived on the scene, they found a wheel from a plane’s landing gear.

A golfer at the Gorham Country Club in Maine found a wheel from a plane’s landing gear on the 7th fairway, and contacted the police. The golfer did not witness the wheel falling from the plane, but came upon it.

Officers responded to the golf course to take pictures of where the landing gear fell, and contacted the Federal Aviation Industry.

Luckily, the Gorham Police Department had already received a call at around 6 p.m. from the Portland Jetport, notifying them that a pilot had contacted the Jetport tower to report that they had lost some of their landing gear over Gorham.

The plane — a twin-engine Piper Navajo — was able to land on its belly at approximately 6:30 p.m., touching down safely at Long Island MacArthur Airport in Islip, New York. No one on the plane or at the golf course was injured.

Police shared some of the pictures on Facebook.
