The GOP was hoping to put Rep.-elect George Santos (R-N.Y.) on a star and shoot him to the stratosphere.
It turns out he may never see the inside of his office.
The media is after him, claiming he made up his resume.
Fraud?
Santos was one of the GOP candidates that stole a seat away from the Democrats in New York.
So, it is really no surprise that the media is coming after him, trying to dig something up that could force his resignation.
The New York Times reported, “His financial disclosure forms suggest a life of some wealth. He lent his campaign more than $700,000 during the midterm election, has donated thousands of dollars to other candidates in the last two years and reported a $750,000 salary and over $1 million in dividends from his company, the Devolder Organization.
“Yet the firm, which has no public website or LinkedIn page, is something of a mystery. On a campaign website, Mr. Santos once described Devolder as his ‘family’s firm’ that managed $80 million in assets.
“On his congressional financial disclosure, he described it as a capital introduction consulting company, a type of boutique firm that serves as a liaison between investment funds and deep-pocketed investors.
“But Mr. Santos’s disclosures did not reveal any clients, an omission three election law experts said could be problematic if such clients exist.
“And while Mr. Santos has described a family fortune in real estate, he has not disclosed, nor could The Times could find, records of his properties.”
The Times also found a possible case of fraud against him in Brazil.
There is also now a question about his charitable organization, which the IRS has no record of.
The group did hold a fundraiser, but the beneficiary of that event never received any money.
If the report is correct, Santos is more of a con man than a self-made man.
Santos, of course, denies all the allegations…

If the Times report is true, this is an utter disaster for the GOP considering how much Santos has been touted by the party.
Not only that, we would lose the seat in the House, making the majority even tighter than it is.
Do I trust the media? Absolutely not, but it is hard to imagine any newspaper throwing out that many allegations without some serious research having been done.
I guess we will find out soon enough.
